I have seen this record in the death records but I cannot remember now why I dismissed this. I think I even got the death certifcate. I shall have to reinvestigate this from the beginning again and start afresh! My grandmother always asserted she was married at 18 which would have meant a 1908 marriage. Her first born was born out of wedlock although my grandfather gave it his name. I have assumed Lilian left him with 5 children from his first marriage and he needed to get another "wife" asap! My mother remembers arguments mentioning a Maud and bigamy. However, whether my grandmother went through a bigamous marriage only to be properly married in 1915, I don't know. I only have the 1915 marriage details. |

Many thanks for your reply. Yes, I suspect bigamy here so I shall take another look at the 1911 census to try and work something out. |

I had this problem - and found both ancestors "married" to someone else on the next census - 1891. On previous census my great great grandmother stated she was a widow. Bigamous marriages could have happened as divorce was expensive. |

I am trying to find the death of Lilian Louisa Maud Marks, widow formerly Kingsman, maiden name Roberts. She was my grandfather's second marriage (M.1903) Albert Charles Marks. However, my grandmother (his third marriage) happened in 1915 just after their second son was born. Presume he was still married when he met my grandmother. Cannot find death of Lilian which should have enabled my GF to marry my GM. HELP! I have looked everywhere! |
