I have the name Dent Mary E date of birth and date of death when I looked the death up on fbmd it was listed with right date, right place, wrong age ,wrong middle initial. I checked the page it appears to be mixed up with the entry directly below it.
Is has been transcribed as written on the page ! can the page be wrong ?

Sorry I am new to this,
Dent Mary Elizabeth died 08/03/1933 age 58 Sedbergh
but fmbd gives it as
Dent Mary A qtr mar 1933 age 79 Sedbergh
I was wondering how these records are compiled originally is it possible the page is wrong.
Or what am I doing wrong.
Thank you

The original on Freebmd definitely says 79. Where is the other record from?

George, you have changed your original message I see! There is no confusion on the part of the transcribers, as they have correctly recorded what is on the original entry.

Mad as it sounds, is there any way she could have died in Lancaster - visiting maybe? - and was buried back home? Or maybe back in Westmorland?

Name: Mary E Dent
Death Registration Month/Year: 1931
Age at death (estimated): 58
Registration district: West Ward
Inferred County: Westmorland

I would say that you are interpreting the freebmd information incorrectly.

It is much more likely that it is the Mary E who died in Lancaster, than that the Registrar in Sedbergh got the middle initial and the age so very wrong.

OH's family comes from Westmorland, including some from Sedbergh area ........ and there has always seemed to be a very close relationship for centuries between people living in Westmorland and Lancaster ........... I know why OH's family is so closely connected, but have no idea why so many other people also show that connection.

I would suggest that she was for some reason visiting Lancaster or within the Lancaster registration district (??on holiday??), died there, so her death was registered there. Then she was taken home to be buried.

That is not unknown!

My own brother dropped dead in a hotel in one jurisdiction, was declared dead in a hospital in another, his death was registered that jurisdiction. His cremation and service was in a 3rd, and his ashes were buried in a 4th jurisdiction. Try and sort that one out in 100 years time!

It was actually very simple ........ he had gone away for the weekend, the hospital he was taken to was very close to the hotel, but in another registration district. His cremation took place in the jurisdiction where his estranged wife lived. And he was buried in the same grave as our parents!

The only way to sort out your problem is to buy the death certificate ........... it is possible to ask for an extra check, eg, name of person reporting death. BUT you really do not know who reported the death, so that is a bit iffy.

If it was me, and I really wanted to know ..................... I'd splurge the £7 to get the certificate. But do it soon ..... prices go up on April 6!

I think we agree there Sylvia. It's the only thing I can think of which might fit. Just one of those funny co-incidences that there was another Mary Dent who died the same time in Sedburgh!
