I’m quite new to this, although already addicted, and am unable to trace this family after the 1911 census. Have tried looking for births, marriages and deaths on freebmd and findmypast, but can find no trace.

1911 census details:
Parents:- Charles W F G Culmer and Eleanor Rosina Culmer.
Children:- Claude Charles John, Eleanor Elizabeth Lelia, Douglas Edgar, Constance Millicent and Grace Isabel.
(1901 census shows them in Poplar, London)

Also from another branch of the family – Ella Edith A Culmer (youngest sister of Charles W F G Culmer) seems to have disappeared after 1911 census (Crayford, Kent).

Thought I would at least have found records of death.

Would really appreciate any suggestions on where to look next.

1920 US census has a Douglas E Culmer b about 1901 but I do not have the right sub on Ancestry to view it

Also a listing for Constance M Culmer b about 1904

Also Eleanor E b 1898, Eleanor E 1872 and Charles W


All listed as is Michigan so looks like emigrated to US

I hadn't even thought about them emigrating, now I've got a whole new avenue to explore.

Is Ancestry the best place to look for emigrations and Draft Registration cards? Its a site I haven't really looked at yet but perhaps I should.

I knew that another branch of the family married in a Methodist Chapel. Can you tell me where you found the baptism record for Constance please Rose so that I can look for other records there?

Hi Janie, the baptism record for Constance was from Ancestry London records, as was Vivian's who sadly died not long after

Janie, if you don't have Ancestry i am happy to look at records there, but I don't now have the sub that allows for US look ups.

You can take a two week free trial with them though, and as long as you cancel before the deadline it won't cost you...you can get a lot done in the time!

Thank you Rambling Rose for the info on Constance + Vivian and for the offer to look on Ancestry for me. I think I need to try their 2 week trial and see what I can find out. Had been thinking about trying it, didn't realise I was going to need to look at US records though!
