Wonderful site. I went there yesterday as a cousin had found some 18th century papers referring to our ancestor, who was a cloth merchant, working from the "Cows Face in Cheapside". He thought it must be some sort of pub :) Quick scoot round British History online showed it was a guildhall type building firstly used by leather guild and then by the mercers. Amazing details on there. |

This is a wonderful site and for the past decade I sort of use it madly and then forget about it for a while :) You could read the stuff all day on there, contemporary writing, records etc. from year dot. |
