Susan as Trudi has said you can get a 14 day free trial on Ancestry...and if you stay up all night , every night you can get an awful lot done in that 14 days :) just remember to cancel before they start charging.

ok go to search put all the details it asks you for then press search
then view when all the reults come up pick which one you think or know is yours
then view census this should take you to the actual census image where you should find the household details there will be others on census so you will have to enlarge then scroll down
and you should get all their info ie age place of birth ect

Susan

for future reference

GR and its' Gold membership is not the best place to search censuses or other official records.

They mainly seem to re-direct you to other sites, and one of the things that happens is that you cannot move from one page to the next or go back, nor can you make changes if you find a mis-transcription or some error.

It would be far better to save your pennies and take out a subscription in ancestry.co.uk (my personal favourite) or in findmypast.

Those are the 2 sites that most of us subscribe to, and on which we find most of the information that we post to help people looking for help.

Free sites are www.freebmd.org.uk for all bmds in England and Wales from start of registration on July 1 1837 to, currently, ca 1935/40

www.familysearch.org is the Mormon (LDS) site ................... it carries the 1881 England Census free, and also is very valuable for the International Genealogical Index. But please, do be careful that you take only EXTRACTED records from there. They have been taken from actual parish registers. SUBMITTED records have been sent in by individuals, usually Church members, and at the very least do not have any backing documentation. At the worst, such records could even be made up!

thanks again polly p, but I still can't do it!! I found Ann Jacklin at the address you found but it only gave me her, no mention of other members, so what am I doing wrong? and what do you mean by the other page and how do I get there? sorry to be a bother but if I don't learn how to do this will have to depend on others indefinately

Thankyou It does! but why isn't John Wm on it? Where did you find it so I can begin to help myself?

Susan

Susan Report 3 Feb 2010 21:24

I've looked on GR but can only get individuals, not the household. I've also tried freecen but I don't think they're there, and the family search (church) site. William Jacklin c.1857, Anne (wife) c. 1860, Ellin/Nelly c. 1880, Rose c.1884, and John Wm c. 1887 main place seems to be lincolnshire.

Susan Report 3 Feb 2010 21:09

please can anyone tell me how I can view the household of a census record rather than an individual person . For example I know that in the 1891 census the Jacklin household I'm interested in consisted of William (head), Anne (wife), Ellin, Rose.A, and John Wm but I can;t find this record. I'm wasting a lot of credits viewing records which tell me nothing.
