Hi Victoria,i have also been puzzled by the Wilson part as i have found my grand mothers wedding Clarissa Stella, her surname is only down as Way and she married a George William Thomas Tolman in the 3rd quarter in 1941 at Neath (Wales) and my g g grandmother was known as Mary Lizzie and i know that is the name registered for her death thank you for looking at the records.

Victoria Report 27 Jan 2010 01:07

Hi Stella,

There are a couple of things I find intruiging.

Mary/May has also got an intial 'W' in 1901 that is not given in 1911.

Clarissa Stella's birth has been registered twice. I am wondering if you could read quite a bit into the WILSON part of the name.

Mind you, PROVING that a particular Mr Wilson was your Gt grandfather would not be easy..

I have looked comprehensively for a marriage of a Mary/May to Albert Howell between 1902 - 1911 [and especially in the two years before the 1911 census]. With no success. I looked also for marriages for a May/Mary Way to someone else and then a remarriage in the married name. I had no success with that either:(

Must go and move the garden shed!!
Sorry I wasn't able to find May/Mary

Albert's history from a Public Family Tree on ancestry ....... which of course would need you to check the data!

Is it possible my g g gran just took on the name of Howell and i also remember my nan taking me to Gold Cliff in Newport to a farm and i think her name might have been Dorothy,im so pleased you have passed this info onto me thank you its a shame i cant trace more.

Choccy

Choccy Report 26 Jan 2010 19:10

Looks like May (probably Mary mis-transcribed on 1911 census) was born in Cumberland.

There is a Kirlington in Cumberland, which could have been mis-understood on the 1901 census as Kirk Linton.

The birth certificate of Clarissa will at least confirm Mary's surname at birth.

Haven't found a marriage for Albert Howell and Mary though.

This looks like Dorothy's birth and her birth certificate might help.
