Could someone please tell me what the difference is between the Merchant Navy and the Royal Navy ? |

Basically - The Royal Navy is the sea fighting arm of the British services. and the Merchant Navy carries cargo and the men are employed by different private shipping lines. |

You might be able to find his records on the National Archive site. Some RN records are downloadable at £3.50 a time. |
