My father was an iron moulder in a Yorkshire iron foundry, dirty noisy and dangerous job. I have a photo and could send you a copy if yo are intersted to what it looked like. |

Thanks for all the information. One of my ancestors was also an iron moulder, in Bristol. He died of a heart attack in 1843 at the age of 32. It was probably a hard job. |

A pattern maker made the original, usually out of wood, and the moulder would pack sand around the pattern. Often done in two half shells, then the pattern was removed, the shells put together, and the iron poured into the mould. |

I'd like to find out more about someone (or rather his occupation) who was a moulder at an iron works around 1780s in Mortlach, Banff Scotland? |
