Dear Ozi, Julie and Mary
thanks all very much for your suggestions, I've not been on line for a while and its always helpful to have a fresh pair of eyes. I guess it would be very wishful thinking for someone to know who (which one) was living in Kensington in 1911 (lol).

It just seemed strange that I could find her in 1911 but not in 1901.
many thanks again, Linda

Hi Ozi

Have just seen your post....how about that then lol,

My OH was born there too & i wanted my children to be born there as well. Now my son never made it as he decided to come early & was born in Suffolk.
I had my daughter there in 2000 & it wasn't too long after that that it moved again ......bang smack in the middle of Hammersmith hospital & wait for it Wormwood Scrubs lol

no worries Julie, I thought I would ask as sometimes people suggest things I might have missed - yep, tis a tricky one, but I will keep searching.
Interesting you were born at QC, birth cert gives Kings Cross as mother's address, but I guess she was a housemaid living at a boarding house.

Thanks for your help, its much appreciated, regards, Linda

Dad's birth registered St Marylebone 1916, born Queen Charlotte's Hospital, given up by his mother so don't know who his family was unfortunately, hence my search...

Julie Report 24 Dec 2009 21:56

Oh i see what you mean.....Was your Dad registered in Kensington

LindyLoo2 Report 24 Dec 2009 21:46

The 1893 Keynsham one was Violet Mary and she is showing on the 1911 census, so they are not the same person.

Julie, no unfortunately she didn't marry, but she had my dad in 1916 an' I've been trying to find her for almost 6 yrs now - she had Violet Florence Pike on birth records, but as far as I can see one doesn't exist. Its proving a difficult one to crack, I just wondered if anyone might know who this Violet b. 1893 Kensington is or could be?
regards, Linda

You say she was 23 in 1916 was that when she married

Hi Julie/Ozi, thanks for your help, I'm struggling on this one - been looking for a long time for Violet Pike, birth records indicate she was born 1893 (ie 23 in 1916), but I guess she could have lied about her age(?) - strange I found the one in 1911 who matches criteria, but can't find Violet born Kensington 1893 in 1901 - the Keynsham one is correct year, I wonder if she was married in 1911 - I'll take a look.
regards, Linda

Did you look at the original image or the transcription? There is no Violet Pike born about that time in the Kensington district on freebmd. However ther is this one and it could be a mistranscription.

Births Dec 1893
Pike Violet Mary Keynsham 5c 601

1901 England Census
Name: Violet Pike
Age: 7
Estimated birth year: abt 1894
Relation: Daughter
Mother's Name: Caroline
Gender: Female
Where born: Brislington, Somerset, England
Civil parish: Brislington
Ecclesiastical parish: St Luke
Town: Brislington
County/Island: Somerset
Country: England
Street Address:

Occupation:

Registration district: Keynsham
Sub-registration district: Keynsham
ED, institution, or vessel: 12
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 149
Household Members:
Name Age
Caroline Pike 33
Alfred Pike 9
Violet Pike 7
Emmie Pike 6
Norah Pike 4
Harold Pike 1

However if she was born in Brislington it's more likely she would put Bristol on the census if she was using the nearest town, rather than Keynsham.

I can't see a birth for her....I have Pike's in my tree & they were from Norfolk

Don't forget it's the head of house filling in the details Maybe it was just easier to write she came from Kensington too

Hi Ozi, I did a search for violet pike b. 1893 and it came up with one living in Kensington - I did pay for the transcription, but in Column 6 it says District Kensington - now is that district born in or district living in?

Actually I just checked it out and she is living in Kensington 1911 and the page says place born Kensington, but I can't find any Violet Pike b. 1893 Kensington in the 1901 census. kind regards, Linda

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 24 Dec 2009 20:42

If you have just done a free search and not looked at the details, then that is the district she is living in.

If you searched by birth district and she came up then it's as accurate as any transcribed material.

If you're lucky somebody with a subscription to 1911 may check her birth place for you.

Iin 1911 census there is Violet Pike b. 1893 Kensington living and working in Kensington but I can't find her in 1901 census. Is the 1911 census accurate re birth district or is it 'living' district? Does anyone know who this Violet may have been as I would really love to know which Violet Pike she was in 1901 census? Your help/suggestions very welcome, thanks Llinda
