Hi, can anyone help? I have an ancestor Daniel Davie born around 1846 but on the Scottish 1881 Census it shows him born in France as a British subject. Does anyone have any idea where I can get his birth record? I can't seem to shed any light as to why he was in France either? |

As he was a British subject his birth may appear in the overseas indexes on FMP. However, if his birth was registered locally in France you may have difficulties finding it. French birth records are held in the Departement they were registered in. There is, as yet, no centralised database. You could look on Geneanet but I wouldn't hold much hope. |

He is on 1871 census with wife Margaret and son Daniel. Perhaps get the marriage cert from Scotlandspeople. |
