Just a little question, if anyone could help please.
What do you think about the possiblity of the marriage of Mary Sophia Walker in 1882 oct-Dec bing the Mary Sophia Walker of the Walker family found at 27 Clarence Grove in the 1871 Census?
I have trawled through the marriages and it was the only Mary SOPHIA Walker I found.
I was working on the possibility that ~Mary Sophia MIGHT be the mother of Fanny Large, but on cross checking there was no Joseph Large to match up and it was in London.
Am I in cloud cuckoo land or doing the right thing? I suppose the Fanny Large cert is still the way to go.
Any advice gratefully received,

I had been puzzling over the Newton le Willows bit and I haven't yet got access to the 1911 so thanks. But people, it seems to me, have always had certain aspirations and have often embroidered their lives with life style fancies.
I remember feeling a bit like Jill-no-friends, but I wasn't upset - I just wondered what I was doing wrong.
But thanks a million for all the input. I shall continue to persue Mary Sophia Walker in case she ever encounters a John Large!!!

Saw your post on another thread (can't find it now!), where you were a bit upset at the slow response to your query. Just to reassure you that people are often working in the background, trying to get something worthwhile to post and verifying it first, and that can take time.

By the time I posted my bit, I had already checked out what everyone else had checked out, but no point in posting it twice, so I just posted the new stuff.

Bear in mind that if you have taken months to reach your brick wall, it might take a bit of time for others to get the answer - but some people on here are so fast! (I am trying to learn from them).

It is very rare that a thread gets ignored but most good researchers want to make reasonably sure of their evidence without posting a complete red herring.

Anyway, hope you are pleased so far with responses, and let us know if you have spotted anything useful, or anything that is wrong.

Chipping in after others have done all the work!

I wouldn't totally discount Joseph Thomas Hill and Fanny Large, though she says she's born Newton le Willows on the 1901, and Golborne on the 1911, cos I can't find any better Fanny Larges born there. Joseph Thomas appears in 1911 to be both at home with Fanny and on board The Ranger (ship), in Carrier's Dock, Liverpool, as an Engineer, born Eccles.

There are several possible John Larges who could be this Fanny's father, but she ain't living with any of them.

Also no sign of her in 1891.

It is possible the 1881 enumerator got it wrong as there are several people in the household with a middle name that looks like a surname and he perhaps assumed the same for her.

Also checked for possible marriages of a Large to a Walker (perhaps after Fanny was born), but no luck.

I haven't found Mary S Walker in 1881, age 21. No marriages of Mary S, though plenty of plain Mary.

I would buy the cert. and hope!

Do you think, then, that Fanny Large, West Derby 8b 456 Apr 1875 is the Fanny Large Walker on the 1881 census?

You can discount the marriage but it proves that all births were not registered or not in the name you would expect.

I really don't know what to think about Fanny though, We never knew Grandad Walker (Edward Thompson) even had two half sisters!
But then, I never knew I had two half sisters and a half brother till I started this hobby!!!
So do I stop looking for Fanny now or do I just sit and think about her???

Well, Jim, I was wondering if there was any connection between Catherine Walker marrying Jackson Whaites in 1877 and the fact that Fanny WAS born in 1877? OR WAS SHE, JIM???

The 1881 census gives her age as 5,if this is correct,how can she be born in 1877?
I would be very surprised if Fanny Large Had a mother named Walker.
My guess is her mother is the partner of one of the Walker sons.

I'm glad to think I can discount SarahJ as Fanny's mother. I am pretty certain the father of Edward Thompson was a Benjamin Thompson who lived a few doors away from the Walkers in Clarence Grove as Edward gave the name of his father on his marriage cert as Benjamin, a Clerk - which fitted.
On the 1881 census Catherine Waites formerly Walker is visiting George and Mary with husband JAckson in tow. Could this possibly indicate that Fanny was her daughter?

Sarah Jane Walker is Edward Thompson Walker's mother. She later married William Andrew Dougall. So you reckon that counts her out?

Why should she be registered as :
Fanny Large, W.Derby 8b 456 in 1775 (2)
and not: Fanny Walker W.Derby 8b 272 1877
or W.Derby 8b 589 1877
How do you decide which she was and what do you ask when you send for the cert when you don't know mother or father????
