i found him on the 1881 census as potolie and the 1871 census as pochin...i've sent off for his marriage certificate so hopefully this will shed some light on his fathers name,thanks nicola. |

i have a address of little lever street ancoats manchester,but we also have a name change which is potolie,i'm trying to find a natralization for james as on another search it says he was a natralized citizan as he's from Italy oringinally..we have also found the spelling of the name,pochi,pochr,...its all so confusing!! |

Registration district is where you register births, deaths & marriages & they are split up into Sub-registration districts such as Ancoats. Each registration district was split into Enumeration Districts for the census and was covered by each enumerator. 23 is the number of the enumeration district. |

vessel means he was on board a vessel on census night if you go back through the pages then you should see the start of the listing which will give the name of the vessel .Could be a fishing boat or Navy |

If you think it is an institution, you can find out what institution it is from Ancestry by going to the image, and at the top of the screen will be the source of the image. Click on the next level down, and it should lead you to a description of the institution. |
