I believe a relative changed their name, probably sometime in the 1940s. I'm going to start by guessing it was by deed poll. Are there any records I can check? Preferably online. |

You can try this website , but bear in mind that changing name by deed poll cost money and most people didn't bother! You can call yourself whatever you like, really. |

You used to see a lot of little adverts in the personal columns of newspapers saying basically so-and-so would now be known as such-and-such |
