Thank you so much Helen.
I had the record of marriage between John and Elizabeth and it gives The following: 28 June 1840 John McCall, Nailer, Catton, and Elizabeth Kerr residing there.(Barony).
I did not have the 1851 or 1861 census records and following them through it looks as though Elizabeth may have died very young and John remarried possibly to a Jean Conn but I am not 100% on this so I'll continue to dig.
These census returns place Thomas's birth about 1840 but there is still no record of a birth, perhaps they did not get him christened or recorded anywhere. On the 1861 census Thomas has a sister Catherine shown for the first time who appears to have been born about 1846 but there is no record of her birth either.
Glitter Baby yes have tried all sorts of variations as Thomas's first wife was listed under the spelling of McCaul, but there are so many variation with a mc name it could be anything.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment and help!

Looks like Thomas gave the correct information regarding his birthplace
1851 Scotland Census about Thomas McCall Name: Thomas McCall Age: 6 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1845 Relationship: Lodger Gender: Male Where born: Hamilton, Lanark Parish Number: 812 Civil parish: Annan County: Dumfriesshire Address: Lodge Wynd ED: 3 Page: 19 (click to see others on page) Household schedule number: 80 Line: 16 Roll: CSSCT1851_205 Household Members: Name Age Donald McPherson 49 Esther McPherson 52 Martin Kean 44 John Murray 65 John Halliday 45 Thomas Forgerson 44 Mary Forgerson 40 Euphemia Adams 40 Margaret Morton 66 Thomas Porteows 16 Mary McCulloch 19 William Johnston 45 John Kirk 83 Peter Broadford 43 John McCall 35 Thomas McCall 6 Charles Nichol 16
He is with his father, John who was born in Glasgow - his occupation: Nailer !
Scotlandspeople marriage:
John McCall and Elizabeth Kerr 28th June 1840 County: Lanark District: Barony
Might be yours - If you looked at the marriage record, it might give John's occupation (nailer) which would help verifiy the connection.

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas/suggestions.
I have been searching for a long time for the death certificate of a Thomas McCall.
This is what I know:
Thomas was born in either 1842 or 1845 (hard to confirm as his marriage certificates show two differing ages).
On 11 November 1864 Thomas married Annie Agnes Bell at Wigton, Cumberland, England. His occupation is given as a horse shoe nail maker and his father is listed as John McCall, Nailer. No mother is stated.
Annie then died in 1877 and Thomas married an Agnes Buchanan on 9 September 1878 in Douniston, Lanark, Scotland. On this certificate Thomas is shown with the occupation of General Labourer and his parents are listed as John McCall, Nail maker, Journeyman and Elizabeth Kerr.
Agnes then dies in 1926 and is shown as a Widow to Thomas.
On the 1871 and 1881 Scottish Census returns, Thomas gives a place of birth as Hamilton, Lanark. The only record of birth that fits in the area for a date and time however is to a John McCall, Currier, and Ann Gibson not the people mentioned on his wedding certificate.
On the 1891 Scottish Census Thomas and Agnes are residing at 5 Gathland Lane, Paisley, Renfrewshire with their children Annie, Elizabeth, Samuel, Alexander, Agnes and Robert.
By the 1901 Scottish Census Agnes is the head of the family and a Widow.
Now my problem is that I have not been able to locate a death certificate for Thomas at all. I have requested and accessed every image for a Thomas McCall between 1891 (when his last child was born) and 1924 on Scotland's people and none of them are my chap.
I have been able to trace all of the children Thomas had with both wives, and their children etc, but Thomas continues to elude me. His occupation changed from horse shoe nailer to labourer then to a Gas stoker.
I've checked the FreeBMD site to see if he died in England but there are a great many Thomas McCall's and I can't afford to order every one.
I have no idea where I can look next or how else to search for him without even a firm record of birth.
Any ideas or suggestions would be a huge help and much appreciated!
Thank you
Rachelle
