That's been puzzling me, too, but from following other threads I gather that it's something to do with volumes and pages being allocated to specific districts or sub-districts. In other words it's not just one big list starting off with Vol 1, p1 on 1/7/1837 and running consecutively. |

The vol # refers to a county or group of counties. As for similar page numbers, I've got bookcases full of books, all containing a page 1. |

Brinsley - Yes, but unless the district has an early initial, you'll probably need births in the same quarter of differing years to get page range overlaps. |
