My great grandfather appears to have been listed in the 1901 census as being a Chilli British Subject. Does anyone know what this means and where I might be able to find more info? Im at such a loss with this branch of my family. |

Could it have been mistranscribed and possibly be child of British Subject. |

I've found him on Ancestry, had to do a free search on the 1901 to find his birth year and place living. |

From what I can see Alfred Ragless jr went to Chile, so I would guess that Alfred Ragless sr was def from chile and you guys have given me info I didnt even know about!!! Im sadly very excited! Is there anyway I can trace him to Chile??? I suppose thats almost impossible? |

I would imagine he was born in Chile, and was a British Subject (i.e., his dad was British) - sort of exactly what it says, so what's the problem? |

is is possible alfred and emily were not married at all??? it would explain why I have never found a marriage record for them. alfred would have to had been recorded as living in this country from chile, how can i find out? questions, questions, questions! |

The 1911 census says he was born sussex. There is also ANOTHER Alfred Ragless on the 1901 census as being born in sussex, occcupation labourer. However, the ALfred Ragless I am interested in was a telegraph engineer and the chile british subject alfred was a re telegraphist. I can trace an alfred ragless to sussex born about the right time but which alfred is he? this is all very confusing and I hope im making sense, im basically trying to ascertain which alfred ragless is the one I am looking for, the 1911 census is def him as my gradmother was vida aurelia zoe. |
