Julia,
You don't get it if you use the first page: you have to select IGI only from the menu on the left of that first page.

Deborah, many thanks, but I might be being abit thick here. When I want to use that site, I type in familysearch.org, and it takes me to a page where there are several options. I click on the first one, which takes me to the next page, wher I type in the persons name, birth/marriage/death, year of birth, and a drop down list of countries. I have only known how to do it ,this way. Once in, I scroll down the list of all people with the name I am looking for, until I find the right one. If there is a batch number, then I click on it. I have never, ever seen a facility where I can select a particular county, on my computer screen. If I have got this wrong, then I apologise
Again many thanks

I was given to understand that the Hugh Wallis site hadn't been updated since 2002.does anyone know if this is correct?

Yes Paula, that is exactly what I mean, but I can only bring up a list of countries, and select England, not areas within a country.
Yes Jim, I am already doing this, by using the 'Batch' facility
Many thanks

Hi Julia

Not sure if this is what you are asking but I have just tried.

i.e. went to IGI then put in Clark and Selected Region/Country/County and lots came up for Northampton - I know you are not looking for this name just an example and not sure if this is what you are acutally asking?

Julia Report 27 Jun 2009 13:44

Thanks Kate and BrinsleyS, it appears that I am doing this already. I thought from reading the above, that there was a way on the IGI, that you could find a particular record for a particular parish, which in my case, is Northamptonshire, then enter a persons name.
Hope this makes sense

Julia,

The Parish Register extracts are an integral part of the International Genealogical Index section. Unfortunately they are mixed in with other member submissions, so you need to know what you are looking for.

The easiest way to tell is to scroll down to the source information which should look something like this for records extracted from parish registers.

Source Information:
Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type:
C107653 1718 - 1745 0990532 Film 6911014 Film
Sheet:

The reference, in this case C107653 refers to a microfilm batch for the register concerned. You can then search this either in full of just for the names you are interested in using the search facilities.

You can also order microfilms from the local centre, which can be useful if they have not been put on-line

I think they usually come up as part of the results from the International Genealogical Index, Julia - it's just that you have to check the records individually to see whether they are extracted (from parish records) or submitted (sent in by site users - can mean they're very accurate or can mean they're sheer fantasy in some cases).

Or, if you do an internet search for Hugh Wallis Batch Numbers, there is a site that lists all the extracted parish records that come up on the IGI so you don't have to guess which ones are submitted and which are extracted.

Edit - just seen, Jim got there before me!

The parish records are included in igi on family search.
If you want to see what is available then look here;

Janice, how do you find the parish records on Familysearch. I use this site alot, but can't say I have seen that facility. I am very interested in Northamptonshire
Many Thanks

Which counties and dates are you interested in?

Apart from the IGI which is your obvious starting point, there are many local projects which have details, often at a county level. For example I use the Lanacashire On-line Parish project exetensively for my wife's connections in Southport.

If you can be a bit more specific then I'm sure there are members who can advise.

Hi Paul,

Not all parish registers are available online: it depends on area and date as well.

For old records Familysearch is a good starting point. Search under the records of the county you want for availability of other records.

Can anyone tell me the best sites to go onto, to find people in parish registers.
