Ellis Island web-site question

In 1902 Lena Ormrod married Arthur Head. In 1903 they arrived at Ellis Island, New York. On the ship's manifest it states they had been to America before, yet this is their first entry record! If they had entered America previously where could I view any immigration documents? Did ALL immigrants to the US have to pass through Ellis Island or could they enter at another port? |

He was in England 1891 and came back 1897.So he may show. |

I know for a fact that he was in England in November 1896. So if he returned from the US in August 1897 he must have entered the US between these dates. He should be listed as passing through Ellis Island? |
