what info will church records give me?

I was thinking of going to my local church to look at the marriage entry for my great grandfather and wondered exactly what sort of information this would give me. |

If it is after 1837, it will be exactly the same as a marriage certificate. |

quite often old records are no longer with the church they will have been passed to the Local Records Office, If you are talking pre 1837 then the parish record usually just shows the bridal parties names and marital status and wether of the parish then the name of the vicar and two witnesses. Sometimes says the ages but more often says of full age or minor. OR, no age given (i have two essex marriages where no age is shown in the parish record)They dont show the fathers names of the bride & groom |

ok thanks. No point doing that then as I already have a copy of the marriage certificate - there are some questions I have over it though and thought other records might help. |
