The previous entry in the same quarter is for Edward Jones born Durham 10a 478 so I guess this is the original entry prior to amendment |

It means there has been an alteration/amendment to the birth entry,,,,,,,which can be part of a mistake of GRO or more official one. |

Probably that the birth was registered late, after the local office had sent its returns to the GRO. Are there any other children on the same page? |
