2006 is the most up to date version of the'old' program, which most seem to prefer. |

Hi Brinsley - it is FTM 2006 , which I decided on after bookmarking the various discussions that have gone on the boards about which to use. I stilll haven't installed it! I have been lucky enough to get a lot of new material - and when I went to doublecheck it on the censuses I foound a whole lot more, followed up a Hot Match contact from that who has given a lot more again! I want to get it established on my GR tree and then gedcom it all to the new family tree programme - I wasn't expecting to get anything more for the time being. When I've got this lot on record I hope to have more time to explore LDS and parish records for earlier material, which does take a lot longer. |

I used to use FTM 2006 and loved it! I have just badgered my mum into buying me a copy of FTM 2009 Platinum for my birthday. Can't wait to have a play with it on Sunday! I have used the same GEDCOM file for FTM, Ancestry, GR and a few other sites and haven't had a problem with any - the only thing is I forget whic ones I've updated! |

I notice that you mentioned FTM version 6. Did you really mean that or are you referrring to the 2006 version, actually version 16? |

Thank you both for your replies - they give me the courage to go ahead without thinking I might mess everything up and start again (largely self-taught silver surfer speaking) |

I'd be grateful for some advice on the best procedure. I recently gedcomed my tree from GR to Family Search, as I wanted to have a safety net. I have decided in fact now to use Family Tree Maker 6 - and have obtained the software but not yet installed it. Can I use the same Paf file I already have on my computer or would it be better to create a new one (with a slightly different title)? and how would this affect my possible future putting my tree on Ancestry? No rush - I must lock up the house now - but I should be grateful for guidance and could answer any questions tomorrow. |
