I have finally reached the stage after 7 years of ancestor hunting that I think I need to start to pay for access to census records. I have managed to survive with help from great family records keeping, help from friends and also look ups from people on GR for which I am eternally greatful on getting me out of some dead ends. |

Kerin, I joined Ancestry at the start of the year and find it very good , for the census 1841 to 1901 and BMDs, and military Records (these for WW1 have given me insights into details of family members over and above the bare 'facts' ) |

Personally I would go with Ancestry every time, and a subscription is the cheapest way to go (although at first it seems expensive you can use the site all day every day and do as many look-ups as you want). |

thanks for all your advice, at the moment its just the 1901 i might get access to as a lot of the people i want to look for in the 1911 census are in wales which haven't been transcribed yet. i might wait until they fully transcribe the 1911 and then see whats around |
