Are you using a Wireless or a Hard Wired connection, are you using a Router connected to a modem or just a modem.

Exactly what happens when you try to open Firefox

Windows will automatically configure the connection to your cable modem and connection to the internt when you start up.

Install Firefox again and then reboot, if it does not connect to the net it may be that your LAN card/connection is duff, is it a tower or a laptop.

Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network Connections, is the connection showing up as connected.

My friend left a small memory card from his camera in his computer, forgot to removed it,got a blank screen each time he switched it on. After trying all the suggested checks which Frank has offered the penny eventually dropped, hope its something straight forward.

Hi Sue,

Plenty of possibilities, easy ones first!

1. Check the power lead is properly connected.
2. Check that the socket works, plug a lamp in to verify.
3. Check the fuse in the plug has not blown.
4. Check the multiple plug adapters or extension units are working properly if in use.
5. Are the lights and fan coming on when you switch on?
If so there could be a screen display problem.
If not it could be the PSU (Power Supply Unit) has died

If 1 to 4 all check out then it`s hard to sort without a working screen.
My desktop PSU died off and was promptly replaced by my local shop.
Don`t know how simple laptops are to sort.

Daft question but has it gone into hibernation? Try pressing the on button again to see if it comes back to life.

I know this sounds silly, but I've done it myself - is it possible that the battery ran out? Make sure the lap top is plugged in and is getting power and try to turn it on again. Helen
