Does anyone know of any Ancestry deals less than £80 odd? You'd think they would give a reduction in these hard times! Wishful thinking, maybe!

Lol. I'd say that's definitely wishful thinking Sandy. The only alternative is to take out their monthly subscription. It works out you're paying way more than for a yearly sub but at least it lets you spread the cost.

The problem with Ancestry is they know we are lost without it.

Our local library ( Wiltshire Libraries Service) have signed up to "Ancestry, library edition" which is free to library members and I assume offers the same databases as if I had paid Ancestry to use their facilties at home. The only charge is 10p per printout.

Suggest if you haven't done so already, you make enquiries locally or whether you could cross the borders and become a "temporary" resident in a neighbouring county that has signed-up to the library edition!

A month or so back you could have had a year for £38 through the aus site. A lot took it up then but at the moment I dont think there are anything special on. If you go through quidco you do get 25% cash back though.

Thing is they have the LMA records coming on soon dont they.

Looks like I might have to lose my Ancestry sub :o(

For the past few years I've had the UK sub at £55.96 per year. This runs out in 3 weeks and the renewal offered is for their Essentials membership at £83.40, and that doesn't include many of the records I used to access previously. That is one hell of a price hike!

No price was quoted for the premium membership. Any idea what it is? Also is it worth the price?

As an active volunteer keyer and arbitrator on their World Archives Project, I'm supposed to get a 10% discount - it doesn't look like it has been honoured. Irritatingly none of the projects I contributed to has gone live yet and I was supposed to be able to view them for free. Looks like this will happen after my sub ends.

I would go back to using the public library's Ancestry but am finding that the only time I get to search is after the kids have gone to bed and the library is closed.

What happens if you take up one of the 20% discount deals sometimes found online? Do you have to reregister with a different name or does it simply follow on seamlessly from your old subscription?

The best offer I know of at the moment is Family Tree Maker Platinum with 6 months Ancestry in exchange for £15 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers

I used quidco cash back last time. Id let mine lapse a couple of months thinking they would write me a grovelling email asking me to go back and giving me 20% off. They didnt.

I went through quidco.com and got 25% back. I used my usual email addy but to be double sure you could use a different one I guess.

re Ancestry. Have done this in the last two days. The membership receipt header is Ancestry.com.au.

I purchased 10 credits about $10.95 AUD. Had one credit left and decided I'd try a membership. Offered a discount if you sign up while still in credit.

When deal was completed noticed I have been signed up for Monthly World Heritage package at $49.95 AUD(24 GBP pounds), discount $10.95 (5.30 GBP) making my monthly payment $39AUD (18.86 GBP).

So without the discount a year's subscription would cost 288 GBP.

Do not recall being given the option of a lesser priced membership however I am still finding my way around these web sites.

About to go in and check what is offered on the other membership options.

i've got the middle subscription £104, but I'm doing what I hope will turn into a diploma in genealogy, so I use it a lot, and it costs less overall than pay-per-view etc. You would think they would make it cheaper when things are difficult or at least have loyalty bonuses or something to make it cheaper for people who have been members for however many years etc

Follow up. Pay by the month for 12 months is about $488 AUD. I cancelled. No refund on the month I've already paid (fair enough). I still get to use the site for the month.

If you have a monthly, or quarterly payment deal or are more than 7 days into an annual membership you don't receive a refund.

Can't work out if pay as you go credits are the better deal. It really depends if you just want to check one piece of information or do what I did and look at every marriage for two names over ten years multiplied by about 35 options. Nope never did find what I wanted.

I was just looking to see if anyone had mentioned any current Ancestry offers. Mine runs out next week and am not happy at 20% price hike either, especially as they didn't buy the 1911 Census!
I've read about the cashback offer through Quidco. If you register using another email address does this mean you lose anything stored on Ancestry in your old email address?

What are LMA records btw?

I was paying monthly but it was becoming very expensive for me. I took out the offer a few months ago for new subscriber's discounted price of about £80 for 1 year subscription. A friend signed up for me with a new email address which I gave them and I just paid my friend the £80.
Before doing so I downloaded my family tree, pictures and stories and then just uploaded them to my new account.
Well worth the effort.

Our local LDS had an arrangement with Ancestry, and you could, indeed, access all the databases. For some reason, that arrangement terminated about 4 years ago, and was replaced by a much more limited access. For example, you couldn't access the 1901 census, and several other databases. I don't know if the libraries have a different subscription, or if things are back to the way that they were with the LDS. Might be worth looking into, perhaps ?
