Hi, can anybody recommend the best software program to use to do all of this stuff? I have been told family Tree is good but have also seen a Legacy one...and apparently there are more. Any pointers gratefully appreciated! |

When Which? tested them it concluded that Family Historian was the best. I use it and I would not disagree. |

FTM 2008 (you actually need the 2009 version which includes updates and bug fixes) is a completely different program to FTM 2006, which itself is by far the most popular on the market. |

Are you researching mainly English records? If the answer is yes then get and use Family Historian, it’s English and made specifically for English records. |

Thanks to all who have replied, I have downloaded a few trials and am playing with them but the Ancestry one is the one I would like to try but there is no trial version from what I can come up with. |

Your Family Tree magazine is currently running a subscription offer that gives you Family Historian 3 as a 'gift'. The cost of the subs is about equal to the RRP. |
