Other opinions needed.
Still need to find Rhoda in 1891.
Also William Bailey in 1891,1871

Thank you for all your comments.I also thought it was a coincidence to find the imfomants name in the same rd and she had a daughter named Rhoda. There is no other name on certificate I'll keep looking

Yes I have read the thread, and agree that it is quite a coincidence. What you say could well be correct, but it would mean that not only was the surname mistranscribed but also the details of the mother were incorrectly entered (as it should have read "Rhoda Robinson, formerly Bailey" - even if her husband Thomas had subsequently died and was not the father of the child). Of course such errors and omissions do occur, but also so do coincidences (especially with common names such as Robinson) - so I think that Jasper would need further proof in this case.

Battenburg Report 11 Mar 2009 03:08

Jasper will have to look for the missing Robinson children in 1911 to see if they are in care

Battenburg Report 11 Mar 2009 02:55

Richard.
If you read the thread Jaspers father was born 1908 Hall Moor Norfolk mother Rhoda Roberson
Informant S A Bailey.
William Bailey and family are living at that address in 1901.Its just too much of a coincidence.
Im thinking the birth cert has been transcribed as Roberson and should be Robinson. I have several certs which have the wrong name even the wrong sex would you believe, so mistakes are possible. Then that wrong name is passed down . Jaspers surname is Roberson

If Rhoda Bailey/Robinson/Roberson gave birth to another child and her husband was dead she might not want his name on the cert. Also it could be the reason her son was given up

As for parents names on certs. My grandmothers birth cert gives parents as married. Mothers maiden name . On grans marriage cert she names her father as the same one on her birth cert.
I was shocked to find her as a nursechild in 1891.Lodger with the same family in 1901.
No sign of a marriage or deaths that might fit

1911 Rhoda Robinson (born Hingham) is a widow living in Lambeth (no other Robinsons in the household):

ROBINSON RHODA F 1873 38 Lambeth London

Battenburg

Battenburg Report 11 Mar 2009 02:30

So we need to find Rhoda in 1891

Also still need William Bailey in 1891,1871

Richard in Perth

Richard in Perth Report 11 Mar 2009 02:23

The Rhoda Robinson on 1901 has husband Thomas and two children (Florrie & Rhoda) were born in Camberwell - so that seems like the right marriage that QuinsGran found above.

Name: Rhoda Robinson
Age: 30
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1871
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: Thomas
Gender: Female
Where born: Hingham, Norfolk, England
Civil Parish: Southminster

Thomas Robinson 35
Rhoda Robinson 30
Florrie Robinson 7
Rhoda Robinson 3
RG13; Piece: 1688; Folio: 49; Page: 11

However, if your Rhoda was previously married then this should have been stated on your father's birth cert (i.e. it should read "Rhoda Robinson, formerly Bailey"). It should state this irrespective of whether the father is named or not. Also there is the difference in spelling Robinson/Roberson so maybe it's just coincidence?

Battenburg Report 11 Mar 2009 01:15

I guess Roberson could be mistaken for Robinson if the enumerator didnt hear correctly. Its just strange that a William Bailey has a daughter called Rhoda in 1881 and is living at the correct area in 1901with a wife born in the same area

Can you find William on the earlier census 1871,1891?

There is this marriage
Rhoda Bailey 1892 sept qt Camberwell gro ref 1d 1430
Thomas Robinson
Mary Fisher.
Alfred John Thirling.
Can someone check the 1901 census to try to match these couples

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 10 Mar 2009 21:09

The 1901 image is clearly Rhoda Robinson.

Wondered if Rhoda Bailey married a Roberson or similar, but cannot find such marriage.

Tough one this.

There is no fathers name on certif .My father went into care as soon as he was born we assume as he is on 1911 census with the family he lived with until his teens
I found Sarah ann Bailey living in Hall Moor Rd it's possible she is the person on the birth certificate but i'm not sure how that will help
I never knew anything about his mother or where she came from.

InspectorGreenPen Report 10 Mar 2009 12:57

On the 1901 Census, living at Hall Moor are William Bailey, aged 83 and his wilfe Sarah Ann Bailey, aged 62. No occupation shown.

I'm assuming your father is Frederick Roberson, birth reg March q 1908? I take it you don't know where his mother was from?

I'm trying to find my fathers mother. On his birth certificate it says he was born Hall Moor Hingham.Imformant was S A Bailey present at the birth. His mothers name was Rhoda Roberson a domestic servant who i cannot trace. She could have lived or worked at that road.I don't know what else to try

Heather Report 10 Mar 2009 12:05

Hall Moor Road is quiet a long road out of the village, I dare say the few cottages etc would have been known just by the names of the people living there. It is still a very rural area.

I am doing a mini one name study of my Uncle's family who lived in Hingham in the 1800. A number were to be found at Hall Moor.

I gather it was a lane to the south west side of the village. I think it is now known as Hall Moor Road. There are no property numbers shown on the censuses up to 1901 - I cant speak for 1911 as I haven't looked there yet.

The electoral rolls for this period will be of little help unless the person you are looking for owned land or property.

Who or what exactly is it you are hoping to find?
