Well I have now given up on ever finding the death of my g/grandfather I think if I was rich and bought every death certificate of his name I still would not have right one. I had a check done at the local office where he lived NOTHING and I can't see one that fits. It would give me so much pleasure to find it.

Why not post details - there are some magicians here who can find the unfindable. Worth a try.

I have exactly the same problem, my gt gt grandparents married, had 2 children, then a couple of years later gmother remarries, but I have been unable to find a death recorded for grandfather, these were poor people so divorce seems unlikely. If he didn't die and just ran away, that would be strange also, as they married, lived and remarried in the same village, someone would have known that she was still married, this was 1878, frustrating isn't it.

Margaret

Maybe he died where you don't expect.

I have no idea of what time frame you are looking in, but two personal examples.....

My GGrandmother was born, married and lived all her life in South London. It was only because my Dad and Mum visited her in hospital (she never left that hospital...So they said) on the day they married, that I thought she died 'North' of the river.....It turned out she was transferred to a hospice/hospital in Kent so her death was registered there!!! This was in 1955.

An earlier example....

1800s, a couple who were born and married in the same small village and shown in the 1851 census there. They died 4 and 5 years later in a neighbouring registration district, both registered by a son who was living there...So they must have moved to live with him after the 1851 census.

Thank you for your answers William Poole died between 1888 and 1891 he lived in Edmonton Middlesex and was born Haverhill Suffolk in 1831 his fathers names was George he married in Emma Ransom in 1871 had four children Emma, born 1872 Kate born 1874 George born 1881 and Albert born 1889 I have all certificates. After he died his wife remarried and Williams youger brother was a witness and surley if he had not died his brother would not have been a witness to this marriage.

His age I don't beleive he ever told the truth about as by the only census I find him in is the 1881 he is so many years younger than thought he is in the 1841 census with his family.

It would be my dearest wish to find this death certificate as I said you would never afford to but them all.

Thank you for reading this

Have you found a baptism certificate for Albert?
Did William register his birth?

I'm wondering if William had already died by then and the child was registered with William as the 'presumed' father, because Emma had been married to him.
They were not so likely to lie to the vicar perhaps, so a baptism register might give clues to an earlier death.
The parish register of burials might offer more clues to death at an earlier date than that which you think.

The only other possible in Edmonton I could find is

William Powell 61 1/4 1891 Edmonton 3a 236

Its at times like this I'm grateful that mine all had distinctive names otherwise I'd never have found some of their deaths when they died in hospital away from the home parish.

Margaretfinch Report 1 Mar 2009 14:47

Hi Janet yes I have looked at that one and wondered also he might have died out of the district. As the others say perhaps he was not the father of Albert I do not know just that William was down as the father. Hello Astra yes that is William baptism
his father George mother Maria. this is how I know he did not tell the truth about his age but he must have died somewhere and surley there must have been a death certifcicat

I've tracked down a relative who died 20 miles out of area in 1944. She was taken to a hospital which had been sponsered by a rich family who her husband had once worked for. I can only presume that this was a chance for a second opinion or perhaps better care in her dying days due to the family connexion.

Hi Margaret

Have you found young Emma and Kate in 1891? I can't see Kate, but there is an Emma b London, living in Portsmouth with Henry Turner described as a cousin. Wonder if William died there (but I can't find a death), or died en-route?

Does the Turner name mean anything to you? Sorry, didn't check where he was born.

You have to be quite imaginative sometimes, cos I found my ggg grandmother dying in a totally unconnected place until I realised that one of her daughters was living there, nursing her dying husband. Mum went to help and ended up in the local graveyard with her son-in-law.

Hi Margaret yes I have both Kate and Emma in the 1891 census Emma working in Hackney and Kate working in Edmonton. I just can't think there could not have been a death certifictae for him . I have the family in the 1901 census and have found them all in the 1911 census. William Poole was born in Havehill in 1831 and married Emma Maria Ranson in 1871 Emma was born in Sudbury Suffolk. than you
