Hi there, I am fairly new, and 'accidentally' got into this an am now well and truly hooked! I have only joined here, and only have my tree here. |

You can down load a gedcom from here and add it into almost any tree program you buy and you can save from your tree program and upload either here or on ancestry |

Personally I think Family Tree Maker is the best program to use,try googling family tree programs, you can download demo versions for free which are fine to use as long as you don't want to upload your tree to the internet. |

Ok, that sound encouraging.... so if I buy family tree maker, is it best to go for the latest version, or does it not really matter? |

The FTM 2006 version is as good as any - there are always lots of threads about this, have a search further down. TWR computing should have it for under a tenner including a sub of some length to ancestry. |

mmmm, I've just had a look..... Delux £31 and Platinum £54. Is the main difference an extra 3 months on Ancestry? is it worth getting the Platinum? Why would I want to be on Ancestry if I am on here? any benefits? |

You dont need those, see my post above yours, you should be able to get the FTM 2006 for a tenner or less. The ancestry sub is well worth every penny - read the tips for newbies - Ill bump it up. |

Ah, thanks heather, sorry, I didn't see your reply before I replied. So you think just getting an older version is fine and much cheaper? |

Ive got 2005 2006 2008 and 2009 but I still use just the 2006 as I find it easier to follow plus you can back it all up to internet storage and cd and you get your own home page free - just a few clicks makes a family tree website for you and people anywhere in the world can view it if you invite them. |
