English ancester search confusing!

Hi, Sorry to be a bit thick but have recently started looking at the English side of family. Up til now have been working on the scottish side. Trouble is i'm finding the English searches confusing, all i get is lists! Are any of the detailed bmd's on the site, the ones with mother, father etc. Any help would be great. Thanks |

You have to buy the BMD cert to see what's on it (at 7 GBP a pop). However, there often is some comparable info in the parish registers. For marrs post 1837, the info will be identical to the m.cert - births are not actually recorded, just baptisms. Similarly, no deaths, just burial services. Even when you get the certs, there's less info on them, although births are pretty close. Also, the IGI coverage isn't so good. |
