Hi
My dads grandfather died in the silverdale coal mine,in dalton, rotherham. The only other information I have is the year he married. My dad thinks he died before he was born (1953), anyway I have been googling in every way I can think off, and there is information about the colliery, and some people who died - but I think this has come from the owners of the sites families.
Im just wondering ifanyone knows if there is anything online that would list casualties of coal mines?
Thanks

Andrew

Hi Vikki

Have you tried to look at any preserved old newspapers published for that area? Even a single death by mining accident is usually big news.
You will also find if you are lucky, a report on the findings of an inquest.
Ask at the local library.
It might take some time, but it is well worth it.

Regards
Andrew.
