Headstone inscription query

I have a photo of a headstone for a John Dalton, and in the bits I can make out, it says "having served his master .............. and honestly for .... years. Does anyone have any ideas of what this could mean - I can't imagine it is a servants headstone. He died I think in 1856,and the photograph was taken by a London photographer. |

Yes, I agree with Huia. 'His Master' most likely refers to God. |
