How good are GR's Census records?

Each of the main sites has their own index transcription and some will have more errors than others. For example, Ancestry's 1901 census seems to have many more omissions and errors than the 1901 on-line site, the original government sponsored one. Perhaps they did a rush job to get it on line quickly, and it shows. |

Jill is correct, GR don't have their own records, & their credits are a very expensive way of doing it. They don't have 1881 as it's free on familysearch. Try a free trial at Ancestry.co.uk for other censuses. |

As I understand it, GR only point you to other sites - they don't hold the info themselves. |

I'm intrigued. Maggie Campbell (b. Cowes JAS 1879) is noted as living in Pelham Cottage in 1891 Census (I was searching for her brother Martin) but she doesn't appear in GR's Search lists anywhere. How could I trace what happened to her? I've checked GR's Marriage and Death Record s1891 to 1901 (she doesn't show up here at all) Any ideas where I might start my search as GR record fail to show her anywhere ? Why? |
