I have found this record on Ancestry, It is on the 1841 Census.

From Ancestry's home page, scroll down and select the 1841 census, then scroll down to the County, then the parish. This will bring up a list of districts. If you click on each district and look at the first page number and the last you should be able to find page 42. To quickly go to the last page number, put the last image number in the box. I think this will work but I have cancelled my Ancestry membership so can't try it out.

The page probably refers to a seperate 'return' that was made for those people who were not required to be named individually but were included in a head count.
The enumerator was only required to count those people who were sleeping in places not designated as dwelling houses such as barns, sheds, tents or the open air on the night of the census so individual names do not, usually, appear in the returns. But it looks as if 'your' enumerator went one step further!
Other groups of people were also omitted, Royal Navy personnel onboard ship, members of the Merchant Marine, fishermen at sea, crews of vessels engaged in inland navigation, people onboard ships in harbour, itinerants, TRAVELLERS and night workers.
The above refers just to the 1841 census, different 'rules' applied in other censuses.

Hello everyone
I'm new to this research stuff so forgive me if this is already well known, but quite a number of people posting here refer to Ancestry.when looking for relatives. Do they mean Ancestry.co.uk?
Although I have subscribed to genes reunited I have looked at Ancestry.co.uk home page, and even as just a registered guest I get more matches there than on genes. Very often on genes it just says no matches found even when I know for a fact that the relatives in question were alive at the time I am looking at.
Is this just my inexperience showing or is Ancestry more helpful than Genes.
Thanks for any help on this. Joy.

When you say you get no matches on this site do you mean when you are using the search box at the top of the screen? This will only bring up names that are in members' trees on this site. To find people in census etc you either need to use the Search Records button on here (but you have to buy credits) or use another site like Ancestry.
If you are looking for births, marriage and death registrations from 1837 to the 1920s, use the freebmd site (http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/), which is free to search.
Before 1837 try the LDS (Mormon) site (http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/frameset_search.asp) for parish records or google the area you are interested in, putting Parish Records in the search box. Some places have online Parish Clerks with either parish records online or links to someone who will do lookups.
Good Luck with your research

Ancestry gives the following for the Boswell record: Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 189; Book: 11; Civil Parish: Mickleover; County: Derbyshire; Enumeration District: 7; Folio: 3; Page: 3; Line: 7; GSU roll: 241293.
However, piece 189 covered a lot more than the chapelry of Little Over. The NA says: HO 107/189 More informationDerbyshire 1841 HO 107/189 More informationHUNDRED: Morleston & Litchurch 1841
HO 107/189 More informationPARISH: Ilkeston, TOWNSHIP: Little Hallam & Cotmanhay 1841 HO 107/189 More informationPARISH: Kirk-Hallam (part) 1841 HO 107/189 More informationPARISH: Kirk-Langley, TOWNSHIP: Meynell Langley 1841 HO 107/189 More informationPARISH: Mackworth, TOWNSHIP: Markeaton 1841 HO 107/189 More informationPARISH: St Michael (part), TOWNSHIP: Alvaston 1841 HO 107/189 More informationPARISH: Mickleover, TOWNSHIP: Findern, Littleover 1841 HO 107/189 More informationPARISH: Morley, TOWNSHIP: Morley, Smalley 1841 HO 107/189 More informationPARISH: Magginton (part), TOWNSHIP: Weston-under-Wood 1841 HO 107/189 More informationPARISH: Ockbrook
Now I'm wondering if the enumerator actually meant page 42 - maybe he read the folio # instead. There is a folio 42 here - two names on it are: Jane Disney abt 1826 Derbyshire, England Ockbrook, Derbyshire Joseph Cope abt 1816 Derbyshire, England Ockbrook, Derbyshire However, the two pages of folio 42 make no mention of gypsies that I could see.
