thank you guys i have checked the burial register and there are about 40 Lees's buried in the grave yard but unfortunately he isn't one of them so i think we are gonna have to go with Jill's thinking that he may off moved away he's child John Thomas was living in the next town Radcliffe so maybe i could look there sometime he could of moved closer to them thanks for your help guys your the best |

Have you checked the church burial register? Not everybody in a grave has to be mentioned on the headstone. |

The grave may already have been full so he would be somewhere else maybe. Or, he could have moved - looking for work / remarried etc ... |

thank-you all who have helped me out i will find it one day it just got me baffled why he was'nt in the same grave as he's wife and daughter age 4 and son aged 1 |

Beg to differ Shirley. Compulsory registration covered deaths as well as births. (I have absolutely no idea how they managed to bury someone without some paperwork - doesn't bear thinking about, but ...) |

Its births that weren,t compulsory till 1875 .deaths will be registered |

Registration was not compulsory until 1875ish so the death may not have been registered. |

I'm struggling with finding the death of Elliott Lees he was born in 1829 in rochdale and was married to Margarat Schofield in 1851 but she died in 1871 i have seen her grave in st pauls norden but he is not in it !!! i've found him in the 1871 census but not in the 1881 census so i presume he died in between these two dates i also wonder wether he re married ??? any help would be gratefully recieved thanks adam lees |
