i have a birth certificate here (to be perfectly honest i'm not even sure its the right one) but it says the father is Geo. Smith F.S. Ribney. |

If you google Ribney it comes up about immigrations. Perhaps FS means foreign subject! |

i was thinking that as well, but on all the other records on the page it has a job after the father and one says f. servt. |

I would guess it's: George Smith, Farm Servant, of Ribney Farm (or Hamlet, etc.) I've noticed there's often a reluctance to waste ink on punctuation marks. |
