Hi All,
Here is Ellen/Helen in 1891 possibly:
1891 Scotland Census about Helen McLaren Name: Helen McLaren Age: 50 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1841 Relationship: Head Gender: Female Where born: Coatbridge, Lanarksh Registration Number: 652/2 Registration district: Coatbridge Civil Parish: Old Monkland County: Lanarkshire Address: Stable Row 4 ED: 23 Household schedule number: 12 Line: 2 Roll: CSSCT1891_319 Household Members: Name Age Mary Frame 38 Archd McLaren 21 >>>>>>Helen McLaren 50 Isabella McLaren 23 Minnie McLaren 6 William McLaren
I haven't seen the 1871 image but in 1881 &1891 Francis is still born in Ireland. However, in 1901 I have Francis born Doune.
There is another John Norman age 3 in the 1881 census. Is this the same one born 1872 or another born after the first on's death in 1873??!!
I do not have anymore certs for Ellen/Helen's second or third marriage.

Gigi -
I can't find the family in 1861 either but, if Francis was born Ireland, it is possible they were there at that time.
Have you found Ellen after 1881?
It looks as if the John 1872 died in Kilmadock in 1873 according to SP.

I have looked Gillian, but can't find anything. I wonder why Francis was born in Ireland? Have you actually looked at the image for the 1871 to make sure it is not a mistranscription? Have you found any of Ellen's other marriages?

Hi,
I have been reserching the Norman family from Scotland and have unearthed some curious data and need advice from you experts!!
I have the family in question in the 1881 & 1871 (cannot find them in 1861) as follows:
1881: In Stirling, Bow Street William Cameron 10 lodger, born Doune, Perthshire Annie Norman 13 d, born Doune Ellen Norman age 38 born Coatridge, servant Francis Norman 16 son, born Ireland, labourer John Norman 3 son, b Doune Maggie Norman 20 d, born Coatbridge, carpet factory Mrs. Williams 22 daughter, born Doune, domestic servant Maggie Williams 2 d, born Stirling Maryann Williams 2 Mo d, born Stirling
1871: In Kilmadock, Chapel Street Annie Neville 3 d, born Kilmadock, Perth Elizabeth Neville 9 d, born Coatbridge, Lanarkshire Ellen Neville age 32 born Coatridge Lanark, dressmaker Frances Neville 7 son, born Ireland John Neville 40 head, born Ireland, shoemaker Margaret Neville 11 d, born Coatbridge, Lanarkshire Marjory Neville 8 Mo born Kilmadock, Perth
In 1871 the family name was NEVILLE and not NORMAN. At first I thought it was just transcription errors but when I tried to locate births on Scotlandspeople I had trouble finding them. A search for Marjory b1870 and Anne b1868 using the name NEVILLE came up with:
Marjory Neville born July 15 1870 At Doune Kilmadock Father John Neville Shoemaker Mother Helen Neville m.s. Thomson (Their marriage was 31 December 1859 at Coatbridge) Certificate signed by Helen Neville - her mark
Anne Neville born 12/1/1868 at Doune Kilmadock Father John Neville, shoemaker journeyman Mother Helen Neville ms Thomson Marriage 21 jan 1859 Old Monkland (this is near Coatbridge)
IGI have also: Helen Nevil, father John Nevil, mother Helen Thompson 19 Oct 1874
Anne Neville, father John Neville, mother Helen Thomson 12 Jan 1868
John Nevil, father John Nevil, mother Helen Thomson 31 Jul 1872
I have the marriage cert for the son Francis Norman in 1883 to Jessie Dobson Stirling: Father John Norman, ???maker journeyman deceased Mother Helen Norman ms Thomson
And also his death cert Francis Norman died 15/2/1904 Glasgow husband of Jessie Dobson. Aged 39 Father John Norman shoemaker deceased Mother Ellen McCaren previously Campbell formally Norman ms Thomson.
I cannot find the death cert for the father John Neville/Norman.
What I cannot figure out is why the family started off as NEVILLE and ended up as NORMAN.
Help please!!
Gillian
