Writing Up Your Tree

How do you write up your tree for others to see??? I have my tree on genes reunited and ancestry and on various sheets of wallpaper, and in note books and .... you get the picture.

So I'm now at a stage of wanting to put it all together in some kind of "book" ??? I want it written down so I can show my relations - in particular my older relations who can't use a computer!!

Any tips would be appreciated!!!! Thank You.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I've got the 2006 version of family tree maker - but can't get the book part to work on my pc!!!

Should I go for 2009 version - is it better than the 2006 version anyway??

I use my Family Tree Maker 2006 program to put a website together (free) for anyone to look at and you can also print trees and books etc. using it. Or get the newer ones (though 2006 is the last and only one which gives you the option of your own website)

Thanks Heather. I don't think I've installed it right so I'm going to take it off my computer and try again. Just keeps crashing when I go into book part - have you had any problems with it?

Can you print a family history book using Family Tree Maker 2009?

You can print it out book form if you download the free programme from family sarch site called PAF very easy to use

Thanks Sue.

Been trying to get my FTM 2006 sorted out with no luck - keeps saying I have compatibility problems.

Do I need to get FTM 2009 to use the PAF?

PAF's a different (free) program.

You use either FTM or PAF (or another of the tree programs on the market).

PAF's available from familysearch.org.

Hi Justine there is a great programme you can download for free called Legacy, are you familiar with it? It has the capacity to put a book together. Just type Legacy in your search window and it should come up.

Justine, have you changed your puter to Vista? If so you need to get a download patch from ancestry - go to their help page and google the problem you have there.

Thanks for your replies!!!

Like the sound of Legacy - just had a quick look.

I tried to download the "patch" from ancestry a couple of times yesterday but that didn't work. My computer has always been vista

And I tied to get PAF and that didn't appear to work either.

Not very good at this am I?? ha ha

Might put FTM 2009 on my Christmas list!!!! At least I know it will be compatible, and I'm sure I can print info off from it.

I have FTM 2006 and, having read this, I went off to see about making the web page. I've followed the instructions and got as far as making a home page but can't see how I then attach my tree so that my relatives would be able to access it online?

Hi havoc, I tried to print my tree off from ancestry, but couldn't get it to print off a full page. Printed the page right in the middle of the paper - saw it as it was on the screen. Hope you know what I mean.

A friend has recommended my heritage family tree builder. I've just downloaded it from the internet and it looks good. Anyone else used it???
