Brain disease?

We have just received a death certificate for my great granddad x3 [1811-1854] which states that he died of disease of the brain-certified. Can anyone please help me to understand what exactly this would have meant? Any info would be gratefully received. |

Just had a look on the Antiquus Morbus site - the nearest I can find is "brain fever", which suggests: |

I had one with brain disease as well and wasnt sure |
