Thanks Derek, I haven't done much research, other than the basic, on the Blackwells, as Sarah Ann Gerrard married Samuel Blackwell after the birth of the three children that forms my tree. But I appreciate you still hanging in there!!! Hope Nina can obtain some info here as well.

Also, was just working away here and realized something mind boggling! After double checking the info that my cousin gave me from his family bible .... it cannot be correct!

And probably because they were trying to cover the fact that three children were born out of wedlock.

Wilfred's dates are correct, and then the arrow goes up to Samuel, but his DOB is stated as June 1867!!!! Then up to Joseph who supposedly dies in 1887. But from all my research, this can't be correct. I believe they've fudged the dates, and put in a later made-up date for Samuel (instead of 1822) to make up for the fact that Wilfred and his siblings don't have a father!!!!!!

Wow, the deceit that went on ... and in a bible no lessI So Samuel's father may or may not be Joseph then....

I'm looking for ancestors of George Copestake b1796 Chilcote I have his father Joseph b1771 Chilcote but nothing beyond that. Do you have any records for Netherseal area? I would be very grateful for any information you may have.

Hi Derek, have been searching around and you'll never guess what I found. A will for a Samuel Gerrard, but unfortunately it's not good news. Will try and cut and paste - it is of your Mary Gerrard, that we thought my Samuel could be a son of, however, that is not to be. Seems Mary was married to a Samuel, not a Joseph, and there is not a son named Samuel. The mystery continues!!!!

This is the last Will and Testament of me Samuel Gerrard of Bradbourne in the County of Derby Miller and Farmer. First I will and direct that all my past debts funeral and testamentary expenses be fully paid satisfied and discharged by my Executrix and Executor hence after named, I give and bequeath to my Wife Mary Gerrard all my stock in trade also all my farming stock both live and dead all my household furniture, dairying and brewing utensils, plate, linen, glass, china and all other effects that I stand possessed of at the time of my decease, together with all my monies and securities for money, whatsoever and whosesoever, and in whosoevers hands the same may be placed during the term of her natural life if she shall so long continue my Widow, but if aforesaid wife Mary Gerrard shall not continue my Widow, then at the time of her marrying again I give and bequeath all my before mentioned property to my several children (Viz) John Gerrard, Elizabeth Gerrard, Joseph Gerrard, Mary Gerrard and Judith Gerrard share and share alike but if she shall continue my Widow during the term of her natural life then after her decease all I bequeathed to her I give and bequeath to my before mentioned children to be divided amongst them as she and my executor herein after named may think proper. Hello Cowslip..I didn't forget you.......bit difficult this one, becasue Chilcote Derbys is a chapelry in the parish of Clifton-Campville in Staffs....it's all very close to the border between the two

I know George Copestake born 1796 married a Sarah....14 years older than he was..and had two children George 1824 and Joseph 1828..both born in Netherseal....but its down as Seal in leicestershire (Sarah came frrom lecicestershire)...and in 1871 there is a grandson George born 1857..no further details right now..but I'll look further into it.

Yes i thought that it would be a long shot being on the borders of three counties. I am very grateful for any help you can provide though. Having said that I wouldn't want you to be wasting energy on descendants of George Copestake b1796 as I am pretty sure I have identified most of these. I think his wife was Sarah Pratt from Swepstone in Leicestershire. I am really looking for his ancestors, I think his father was Joseph Copestake b1771 also Chilcote married to Martha Hinksb c1771 Austrrey Warwicks and Francis Brady. I am trying to find Josephs Father to see if I can link my Copestake tree with any other nearby Copestakes via Josephs Uncles etc.
Just wondered if you had anything from other records other than Census which I think I have searched pretty comprehensively (although could be wrong).
Any help is most gratefully recieved.

Do you have access to records for Glossop, Hayfield and surrounds...I would like to trace any Margerisons if possible...John Married a Catherine Lister in 1883 and had children....then she did a runner and became Catherine *******..my Gt Grandmother!!! So I would like to trace these descendants as they would be interested to know what became of their Gt Grandmother I am Sure!! Many thanks rach

thats great thanks. The children were Joseph b1887, John William b 1889..Agnes c1887 Grace 1891, Elizabeth 1893 and Eva 1898. I think the younger girls may have been put in a workhouse? By the 1901 census Catherine was with her new family! Margerison is sometimes misspelt Margison on the records I gather? I would really like to trace these relatives and know what became of them after their mother left. :( Also if you come accross any Lister or Longleys they may well be Catherine Lister's relatives as seamingly Beard and Bridge and Bancroft names are linked through marriage, wich is how i guess they came to be in Glossop from Sheffield?

Hi Derek, My greatgrandfather, George Graham, Is listed in the 1881 census as having been born in 1837 in Derby But I have hit a brick wall in trying to find his birth cert., etc. He married Maria Smith & the whole family settled in Middlesbrough. He & his sons were boilermakers/

Hello Vic.........I have trolled through the census returns for your George...the only 1881 entry i can find for a george graham 1837 Derby is a lodger living in Bramley Yorkshire.........and he appears nowhere on IGI as coming from Derbyshire........nor can i find his marriage.
If you can give me date and place of marriage..or where you found this 1881 entry..I'd be able to help further.

Hi vic.in 1861 he is in Gloucestershire......both 1861 and 1881 show him as born Derby..and in both cases he is a boilermaker.

I've sent a pm to Rachel as it seems she's wanting to trace the Margerison's after Catherine left. Might be better if she had a separate thread on Trying to Find.

Just to advise others (not Derek of course, I wouldn't dare!), the Hayfield District, despite Hayfield being a tiny village, covered Glossop, which is where the Margerisons seem to be from (sort of).

Hi Janette....JANE KERRY was the daughter of HENRY KERRY 1810-1874) and his wife ELEANOR nee Calladine b1815..both of Heanor.(married04.07.1833)

Jane was youngest of four children born before 1851 in heanor....and another four by 1861..born in Radford Nottingam..........

William Fox was born radford Nottingham 1847 and married Jane Kerr in 1869.
