Hi Jane...............some goodies from Matlock..and some frustration.....Here goes.....

The marraige of joshua and Sidney doea not appear in the DUFFIELD records...but since Duffield included such places as Belper....I'm not surprised.........

Neither can i find his death..but it was before 1839..and probably one of the reasons she went into the Workhouse.....she gave birth to JOSEPH WOODWARD in Derby Workhouse..as a single woman..not as a widow..01.03.1837..no father is shown.......

But by 1839 she is out of the Workhouse and living at Normanton..an outskirt of Derby......and on 01.07 1839.as a widow..she marries WILLIAM BEDFORD also of Normanton.... at St. Peters Derby....on the Marriage entry Williams father is James Bedford Labourer........and Sidneys father is shown as Thomas a Framework Knitter.............which confirms my previous info that her parents were Thomas and Mary..
By 1851 she is again a widow living in St Alkmund's Derby with her 14 year old son Josepph..now Joseph Bedford..........

I suspect that Joseph IS the son of Joshua..and the loss of Joshua by death or by separation or divorce is the reason she was in the Workhouse.

A better reason for her being there is as a pregnant single woman...

In 1839 when she married William Bedford she is a Servant

I'll look for her on the 1841 Census.and at least i have some ammunition to find more about her and Joshua's parents.as well as of William Bedford.

It all took a very long time!!

Thanks for that Derek, I did know already she remarried William Bedford in 1839 (Bedford is my MaidenName even if it was originally adopted) it was Joseph's father I was interested in, and as you say Joshua Woodward was more than likely his father, in 1841 Sidney and William are in West Bromwich with a baby daughter as well as Joseph.
Because I don't know much about Joshua's death I can't seem to find anything else about him.

BETTY NIXON daughter of JAS NIXON and MARGARET baptised St.Peter's MACCLESFIELD Cheshire 04.09.1803

Still can't find any trace of him in Derbyshire...Fairfield is in the parish of HOPE,and I have that disc.........no show..sorry

I have an ongoing problem trying to find the maiden name of 2 married sisters though I have not much to go on I'm afraid...I would really appreciate any of your genius please.

Mary Radcliffe b1793 (my husband's 3x gt grandmother) and Nancy Booth b1798...both born in Sterndale.

Mary was married to John Radcliffe/Ratcliffe b1782 Stockport, Cheshire and lived in Stockport on all census. I have no marriage for them so not sure if they married in Cheshire or Derbyshire.

Nancy in 1851 was living in Hartington Middle Quarter, Bakewell her occup states that she farmed 4 acres husband absconded. No family living with her and I cannot find her in 1841.

In 1861 Mary and Nancy are living together in Stockport.

As I say not much to go on...sorry..

Hi linda.this is a nightmare..having done all i can......I have the Earl Sterndale and Kings Sterndale and buxton Parish Records...as well as the Hartington ones......and i have IGI and all the Censuses........and all I have found is that Nancy Booth's husband was undoubtedly SAMUEL BOOTH, and that they had a daughter SARAH ANN........at Sterndale. 01.10.1826......and they are both shown as from Stockport......which is of course Cheshire.
I can't find their marriage or any Sarah Ann Booth on 1841 Census.

I went through the whole of both Sterndale registers looking for a Mary and Nancy..or even a Ann or Hannah and Mary of the same family.of about 1793.1798

One possible clue is Joseph Garside.......but the dates are wrong

John ratcliffe married a Mary Garside at Stockport (St.Mary's) 08.06.1811.....

I'm looking for a Nancy Garside Samuel Booth marriage....

As you say it is a nightmare I have been searching for nigh on 5 years.

On the other hand...you have found the name of Nancy's husband and a daughter...this is a wonderful breakthrough for me...thank you so much.

I had seen the marriage on IGI of John Ratcliffe and Mary Garside however I wasn't very sure it was correct as the earliest known child I found was Lydia Radcliffe b1821 Stockport.

So if I have this correct Derek... both Samuel Booth and Nancy are from Stockport so can I presume Mary was ? In the 1841 Stockport, Cheshire census... mistranscribed as Paldiffe...Mary was born out of county and in the 1861 Mary and Nancy were both born Sterndale. However in the 1851 census it says that Mary was born Stockport...at the time I did think this may have been an error.

Why do my husband's lines have to be so difficult lol...you were a great help with his prolific Tideswell Bramwell family some time ago...

Do you have any baptisms for Ashbourne Derbyshire please?

I`m looking for Elizabeth Melton born abt 1806, she married Lawrence Green in St Peters Derby 1823 and died 1888.

Every census says Ashbourne.

Hello Sylvia....No I don't have Ashbourne Records, but i do have access to them`when I go to the records Office at Matlock......I have found the marriage of Lawrence gree to Elizabeth Melton 25.10.1825 St. Peter's...and I have looked at the Census entries, but as yet have found nothing on Elizabeth Melton..not even IGI........yet!!

Sorry to bother you l but i am now trying to find a line of my family. i am trying to find Thomas hardy Born 1823 Kegworth, and his Wife Elizabeth born 1825 South Normanton

Moved to eastwood Notts then heanor Derbyshire i believe there 1st child was born in 1848 at eastwood, then they moved to heanor, please i hope you can help me. If what i am told by family is correct then they had around 11 children 1 of which we know died in infancy.

Hi Emily..sorry for the delay..have looked around for you......and it seems that the hardy fanmily were around in Kegworth from at least 1650.......I only deal in facts that I can verify....but there seems to be a definite link.

I live in Nottingham,and co-incidentally work in loughborough..which means i go through Kegworth at leat five or six times a week.
You might like to know that Kegworth is in fact in North Leicestershire but has a derbyshire postcode!!

I have confirmed the travels of your Hardy's from South Normanton...into Leicesertshire and back to Eastwood and heanor...WOW...
It's too late tonioght to give you details but just letting you know i'm on the case!!

This is a tip!! for all the lovely people who contact me about Derbyshire.....Google "Derbyshire Lookup exchange"....If you work your way down the list..you will find "Yesterdays Journey"..its completley brilliant an may help a lot.
Also, when you scroll down you will see quite a lot of stuff that is available "Online",and leads you to all sorts of unimaginable goodies.

It is part of the "UKlookups exchange"....but Derbyshire appears far and away the best part of it.......

Hi Joan....ok...easiest way is to Google Yesterday's journey....and click on the very first entry.........I think Yesterdays journey is specifically derbsyshire.
But there all sorts of other goodies "available online"....on the Derbyshire lookup exchange site...
If the entry gives a name of a contributor then you have to ask a specific question via EMail ,which is clumsy
