If Alfred was born Nov 1900 he would only be 4 months old at the time of the 1901 census

It looks as if Alfred is his father and Alfred's wife is transcribed as Maud but looking at the census image I think it might actually be Maria.

thanks everyone for the info re eastbourne.and i didint realsie when census was taken so it could mean i have date of birth wrong- strange.

i have already discredited that entry! definitley my harold on 1901 census aged abt1 yr with brother charles aged 4 father charles widow

the underlying reason that i know this the correct entry is that the name jarrett is noted as friend??? and mum remembers a lady called jarrett and possibly a half brother.

any other ideas re birth data. his brother was aged abt 4 so im guessing mother may have died in childbirth. i welcome all suggestions as long as they are kind!!

A possible for son Charles's birth (if he didn't have any middle names):-

Name: Charles Bassett
Year of Registration: 1897
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Westminster (1870-1913)
County: London, Middlesex
Volume: 1a
Page: 479

There are a couple of births for a Charles Bassett and a Harold Bassett in Lancashire at the right times, but that wouldn't fit with the place of birth given on the 1901 census (which was Notting Hill).

family orignally from cornwall and have tree of ancestors

its just the recent history ie 1901 to approx 1930s
which has gaps. cant wait for 1911 census it may open up more clues.
