I am trying to find a John Higgins born 1860ish, he married Catherine Connelly 184 Sorn Ayrshire John was born Catrine Ayrshire. I have a daughters birth cert stating that he was a Private 3 or B brigade Royal Artillery 1885, but I can not find a death cert or any census for the family. Daughter was born in Sorn Ayrshire.
Any help very much appreciated, or advice where to look.

Daughter was Maggie Higgins born Feb 25 1885 mother registered birth herself.

Is it possible that they went abroad with the army?

If you want to trace his army records, a very good military researcher is Roger Nixon and his charges are very reasonable. The information from a military search is always worthwhile.
