Jac

If you send an e-mail to Kevin Asplin with the details of who you are looking for, he will do the research for you for a fee. He has done a few things for me.

I contacted Kevin via googling his name and my George Randall was on his list of names on his website , Kevin kindly to look at records when he went to Kew for a small fee. He emailed them to me yesterday.

I recently contacted Kevin Asplin and he was very helpful

Hi - yes I realise that, but I do know the exact reference etc. so that will be OK to order in my case. Fingers crossed that I dont muck it up of course!

I think the site actually explains what can and cannot be ordered on line, so it's quite clear really.

I just nudged cos I knew George might be interested!!

You can only order copies if you have the exact reference of the one you need. If the document is in a box with many other documents as many military records are, and it hasn't been name indexed on the catalogue, you can't order it.

Thought I would nudge this up, as apparently it is possible to order records online.

Thanks for that folks!

Joy - yes Barman would have been more appropriate - lol - you know a bit about the guy after all )))

Thanks for looking George - I should have bookmarked where I saw the info, but didnt - my own stupid fault. If I find it again I'll let you know.

Keith - I fear I have asked Kevin so many questions of late he must be right fed up with me - lol

I might have to resort to employing someone to get the records for me - any idea of what researchers cost anyone??

Jac, if you speak nicely to Kevin Asplin, he often goes to the records office, he got three lots of records for me on three trips.

I've been fortunate and seen army records for my great-great-uncle going back to the mid 1800s.

But just seen your grandad's and, no, it's just world war one.
Thought it said barman! no, it was carman ... :-)

Hi both - sorry for the delay in responding - been watching Henry and his late wife Anne!!

George - I got the info. from Kevin's site and he's pointed me in the direction of the Records Office to get the service history, but problem is I wont be able to get there personally, and wondered if I could order it on line - I think I saw on a Boer War Site that it could be done on line, but not sure that's why I was asking.

Joy - if there is any further info on Ancestry I would be very grateful, but I believe there is only the Pensioner's Info. 19914-1920 which I already have (unless of course you know differently??) His details are George William Suter, Trooper Noo. 4779 50th Coy.17th Bat.I.Y

I'm grateful for your input, both of you. Thanks so much.

They might be on the ancestry site, Jac. Would you like me to have a look?

Jac

Jac Report 3 Oct 2008 19:50

Hi - can anyone tell me whether I would be able to order my grandad's Boer War Army Records on line, or would I have to visit the Records Office personally?

Not likely to visit London in the near future, and I thought I read somewhere that they could be ordered on line, which would be a great help to me.

If this is the case, has anyone any idea of the costs involved?

Any input gratefully received. Thanks.
