Does anyone have access to any citations entered to the London Gazette in February 1917? My Grandfather Bernard Patrick McDermott (Cpl) in Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry 2nd Bn was awarded the MM - he was also MiD (mentioned in despatches). I know that due to heavy losses in 2nd Bn some were transferred to the 95th? Unfortunately, he would only say that he made tea for the troops or catching a runaway horse, so my mother, uncle and my late grandmother have never found out why. We do know that he was caught up when there was a mustard gas attack. I have tried the Regimental History in Yorkshire, but no joy. If anyone can find out ANYTHING, it would be fantastic as it is coming up the 50th anniversary of his death and would like to be able to present something positive to my mum and uncle. Thanks - Sarah |
