The first thing you need to do is to find out where and when they died.

Sharon

Sharon Report 13 Sep 2008 10:58

I know that they were from the Smethwick and Oldbury West Mids area and never moved fron that area.

Both of the death certs will say whether the ladies were widows.........or not...........that info will enable you to look for the deaths of their husbands.

As for where they are buried (if they weren't cremated) you would probably need to look for the cemetery nearest to their place(s) of death...........although it is not always the case that people are buried where they die.

Not really helpful, I'm afraid..............

You could check the NBI website, to ascertain whether they have any coverage for the years/areas involved..........

You need to give your grandparents full names for anyone to help you.

As already stated if you get the death certificates for your grandmothers it will state whether they are the "wife of..." or "widow of...." which will tell you whether their husbands died before or after them.

There is this death:-

Gladys M. Cook, age 52
June qtr. 1952, Oldbury, 9d, 141.

You can buy the certificate online from the GRO at:-

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

It will cost £7 with the reference numbers given above. Make sure when the online form asks "Is the Full GRO Reference Number Known" that you tick "yes".

Once you know the exact date of death you should contact the cemetery nearest to where the death took place and ask if they have a burial record for Gladys. Most cemeteries now have this information on computer so it shouldn't take them long to find out if she is buried in their cemetery.

Could you have got the year of death out by one year?
