Have heard from the museum, he worked there in various positions for 48 years!
At least it gives me a base now, and confirms that he stayed in Oxford. Also gives me a starting year to look for a death.

Have just found an email address for the museum, just gotta sit tight and wait for a response now....

Just found something that I forgot about.
Stanley was the informant of his mothers death in 1947 in Oxford - his address was listed as The Ashmolean Museum, Beaumont Street, Oxford.
Why would his address be listed as a museum???

I am really confused there are 4 separation allowance forms, the 1st from Feb 1918 gives the leicester address, and 3 more following on - march ans september 1918 all give the same oxford address....

Have been searching for a while for any deaths for him, but not found one as yet, Have just found a Priscilla Gardner died 1948 age 61 but in Lancaster, but if this is her birth then age matches.

Am back with 'fresh' eyes to give it another go today..

I have just found something I wasn't expecting.

I was going through the pages for someone, who might have been my uncle, but I find isn't. There is a complete death certificate for a 1 month old child of the soldier, scanned over two pages. I suppose it was given as evidence of needing compassionate leave. How sad!

I haven't found any of mine yet, but I don't think they have completed them yet.

I've lost him again!!
Neither in Oxford nor Leicester as far as I can see.
Was definitely discharged, didnt die in service.

It is, its brilliant, am only halfway through, and I think his wife moved from oxford to leicester, so may explain why i lost track of them before..

When I find these documents i find them so interesting, you can get a picture in your head of them, not just a name

It really feels good to find out more than just bare basic information about people. Gone are the days when I try to grow my tree in size, am SO much more interested in the people in it..

If he died in service it will normally say

If this is the marriage then the records on ancestry is him as his next of kin is Priscilla

Have you looked at Medal Cards, Service Records and Pension Records that are all available on Ancestry
