Hello,

My great grandmother was called Rosamund Emma Crocker, and was born c1868, she was baptised in Ruan lanihorne, Cornwall in 1868. She was possibly born in Palman, Cornwall.

I have managed to find her in the 1871 census, when she was 2, in Truro, St Just, ( 60 Church Street) but I have lost her after that, until she appears in the 1901 census married to my Great Grandfather John Rickard. She appears in this census as Emma Rickard, and they had moved to Devonport in Plymouth. Which fits, with the bit of family history, that I know. I have tried various spellings of her name Rosamond, Rosamund, Roseamund, Rosemond, Rosemund, Rose, Ros, Emma, Emma Rose, and lots of other variations, but I am not able to locate a birth or death register entry for her. I wonder if anyone help me?

Thanks for getting back to me. I haven't tried Ancestry, for her BMD, but I think i'm going to have too. I have to admit i've not heard of Findmypast, so I shall be off to try that.

I know my great grandfather had died before my grandparent marriage in 1922, as it states he was deceased, but I haven't found his exact date of death. Unfortunately she wasn't a witness on any of their childrens marriages, that I have found.

Glitter Baby, did you find the birth info on Ancestry? I'm going to check GR just to prove to myself i'm not going mad, or to prove i am going mad!!! Which ever the case maybe.

You aren't using GR for BMDs are you? They are free to search on freebmd, which is where I would think Glitter Baby found the one she has posted.

Well, why pay for credits on here when you can get the same info for free?

Sometimes you will need to look at the full indexes but most of the time for the period 1837 to the 1920s you will find what you want on freebmd.

A tip - with names like Rosamund which can have various spellings, use a a wild card, ie Ros*. I couldn't find the one Glitter found because I was searching for Rosamund and she is listed as Rosamond

Could be the Truro Union Workhouse.
