Yes, read the Tips for Newbies - re the date of birth you cant find - the date given on a death cert is as good as the person giving it. They can be years out - the informant of the death may just guess at the year. |

Unless you are talking about a recent death (within 50 years?) it is not necessary to have the exact date of death to order the certificate. All you need is the name and GRO index reference. In fact you won't find a date of death at all on any of the sites that have access to the GRO indices. |

you can order the death cert from the GRO without a date of death you will need the GRO reference, you get the reference from the GRO index, so you will need the persons name year, quarter, district vol and page number |

I have just joined the site, I can see lots of messages praising the site, but I don't quite get it. I can find two entries I want to pursue, both DOD, wlll within a three month field. In order to order a copy of a death certificate on line I need the exact date of death, which cannot be determined from the photo copied entries. I can apply by post to the local BM&D office (Leicester) along with payment. At this point I'm wondering how is it possible to apply for a death cert |
