A relative of mine, William Henry Clark born 1890 in Warwickshire was, I believe adopted. I have him on 1901 census living as a boarder with Adam Lillie in Portsmouth. Does anyone know what if any records there are on adoptions or how I can find out any more about this??? |

In 1890 there was no such thing as legal Adoption so their will be no records for that time |

What makes you think he was adopted? Maybe he was just visiting in 1901? |

He was definitely adopted by Mr Lillie and went on to run the family busness. The birthplace should be Shrewley in Warwickshire according to another record I have seen. You're right I will order the birth cert. |

Your relative may well have been adopted in the true sense of the word... but prior to 1927 it wouldn't have been official and no records were kept. |

If you are the descendant of a deceased adopted person who was adopted after 1927 as described by Geraldine in her message, and you are trying to get access to birth records but have hit a brick wall, then I would like to hear from you. |
