To add to the mix an ancestors sister was baptized with the Christian name as 'Mysie' - married as 'Peggy' - died as 'Margaret'. :-)

Cheers ~ Steve.

Perhaps Peggy she used on her marriage cert wasnt her full name.
My grandmothers sister used Annie on the census and marriage cert but her real name was Phoebe Ann

Marilyn

I've told this story several times on here over the last 3 or 4 years.

My husband has a friend called "Max" .......... friend's initials are F.J.R. ............. none of the names has any possible connection with Max

BUT that is what his parents nicknamed him when he was in utero .......... and they never managed to stop using it!

He lists himself everywhere as F J R (Max) xxxxxx .. has to od, 'cos no-one knows him as anything else, but it's also not his legal name!

Usually a nickname for Margaret but sometimes stands on its own. My mother was called Peggy as a nickname and it had nothing to do with her real names.

Thanks all of you, as I say thought I heard of it as short for Margaret, couldnt find Peggy in baptism records but was named as Peggy in her marriage record.

I think thats the end of her if you are right about having no connection with her real name Sylvia lol

Ill just have to keep looking, thanks again

Has anyone any Peggys in their tree, I found one, and have been searching parish records for this name, but I am sure I have heard of it being short for Margaret. Am I right or could it be short for anything else.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Marilyn
